Information wanted – TALBOT

Following a visit to Barford on 11th November to leave a poppy for my Great Uncle, Francis H Talbot of 2, Bridge Street, who died in action in 1918, I would be most interested to hear any news of any of the Talbot family. My Great Grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth, are buried in St Peter’s, and I understand that Henry was a coachman at Barford House. There were 5 children, including Francis, and Ellen Victoria was my grandmother, though sadly I knew nothing about her until after her death. Any information about Barford at those times, and particularly about the Talbot family would be received with great pleasure and interest.

I have been in contact with LAWRENCE ARCH in Massachusetts, a grandson of JOSEPH ARCH of Barford, we are trying to learn more of the origin of his family, in particular, the PACE ancestry of Joseph’s mother, HANNAH PACE 1783-1845 daughter of JOSEPH PACE 1746-1818 and MARY LAMPIT, married at
TYSOE, Warwickshire 4 Oct 1766. Joseph Pace owned the cottage across from St. Peter’s Church, later, ARCH family members lived there.

I have a rather ‘rediculous situation’
- I am a PACE and my grandmother was an ARCH. I have been told, we are related to Joseph Arch of Barford, etc. but the exact family connections, are elusive, I have yet to determine.

My grandmother’s ARCH family were from Bloxwich, an area of Walsall. Harry ARCH of Pavenham in 1999 sent me documents, showing the Bloxwich ARCH family ancestry going back to EXHALL in Warwickshire to:

I’ve been searching for information to help clarify the situation.
For many years I’ve been collecting genealogical info on my PACE – ARCH, and related families.

JOHN ARCH 1795-1862
– b 16 Aug 1795 Rowington
– marriage 12 Oct 1818
– JOHN died 15 October 1862
+ HANNAH SHARRARD nee PACE 1783-1845

HANNAH’s maiden name was PACE – she and her father JOSEPH PACE were employed at Warrick Castle – married 1st – Mr. SHARRARD a footman at the castle.
After HANNAH’s 1st husband died about 1816 – HANNAH married JOHN ARCH 12 Oct 1818 Witnesses – ELIZABETH RYMILL and JNO COOK, Clerk. – source Pamela Horn’s book
- HANNAH died 8 Sept 1845 – buried 11 Sept 1845 at BARFORD.

Dave Tandy was looking for info how his TANDY ancestry might connect with that of JOSEPH ARCH of Barford.

I think I have a clue:

There is a PACE-TANDY connection
ELIZABETH TANDY – Christening: 6 Oct 1678 BARFORD
+ RICHARD PACE – wed 1700 BARFORD

I do not have exact info how this RICHARD PACE of your ancestry may relate to JOSEPH PACE 1746-1818 who was JOSEPH ARCH’s maternal grandparents, but

Looking at dates -

RICHARD’s marriage 1700 BARFORD
and JOSEPH’s 1746-1818
it would seem a connection between
Richard and Joseph likely exists.

Absence of this fact makes me all the more curious, especially since my grandmother was an ARCH and I am a PACE. Further research results need to be uncovered, to learn this
TANDY-PACE-ARCH connection.

Information wanted – GEM, Westham House

Captain Henry Gem and family (with 4 servants) were living at Westham House, Barford at the time of the 1881 census. I have discovered on the internet that the house only dates from 1877. I wonder if anyone on this Group knows if Captain Gem was the builder of the house. Though not a direct ancestor (I am descended from one of his 1st cousins) it would be a useful addition to the family history. In addition does anyone know of a net-accessible good quality picture of the house.

Hello,
Whilst researching my family tree, I have discovered ancestors born in Barford in the early 1800’s.
Thomas Clarke b.1806 in Barford married Jane Priddy b.1814, also in Barford. They had 9 children, all of whom were born in Barford.
Ann b.1833. Emma b.1834, Harriett b.1837, Arthur b.1839 who I believe died very young, Walter b.1841, Sidney (female) b.1845, Henry b.1848, Arthur(no.2), b.1850 and Charles b.1857.
Thomas Clarke was a shoemaker and grocer.
My direct line is from Sidney Clarke who married William Palmer, a Stone Mason in 1862 in Stratford upon Avon.
I would be grateful for any information on the Clarke or Priddy family.

My interest is in Mary Handley, born at Barford in 1832. In 1851 Mary was living in Southampton with James and Mary Thompson, where she married a R. R. Oke, a physician, in 1855. Mary Handley was the niece of Mary Thompson. Mary Thompson was born in Fulham, Middlesex (London) and may have been a Cartwright.
