Historical Themes
This section of the website contains feature articles, each with a particular local history theme.
Initially, we present two themes, the first virtual heritage trail around the village and a brief history of Barford. We are working on many more features, and new themes will be added to this section of the website over time.
Click on the links to the left to explore each of the historical themes. More detailed information on each of the themes is listed below.

A Brief History of Barford
-
This feature article explores the history of Barford from pre-Bronze Age to the present day.
We look at early settlement in the locality, and move through the development of the village in Roman, Saxon and Norman periods to current times.
Topics of interest include agriculture, Church and Chapel, roads and Barford Bridge (pictured left), and various social matters.

First virtual Heritage Trail
-
Take a walk around Barford, and explore the history of some of the buildings in the village and the people who have lived there, in this virtual heritage trail.
Starting at St Peter's Church in the heart of the village, this trail takes you to the east and north of the village.
It visits Church Lane, Hareway Lane and the (now demolished) Barford Hill House, before returning to the starting point via High Street and Church Street.
The image (left) shows the front cover of the Heritage Trail leaflet.
The trail uses Flash - you will need to have installed Flash Player in order to view the trail (see box at top right).
