Welcome to the Barford Heritage website
The aim of the Barford Heritage Group is to create a record of life in the village from early times to the present day using as many sources as possible, for example existing archives, publications, photos, maps and by talking with local people. The project has been assisted by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Group has devised a village heritage trail, which includes local features such as a medieval dovecote, grand country houses and more humble tradesmen’s cottages. The trail is marked by plaques in the village, but can be followed photographically on this website. A full colour leaflet has been published by the Group.
Members of the Group have been trained to record reminiscences from village residents, past and present. These are being transcribed and summaries will appear later on the website.
The Group has already held exhibitions and presentations, and more are planned.
The Group co-operated with the Barford Drama Group to stage a play in 2007. This took the form of vignettes based on the reminiscence work and on local families and events. It was very well received with "sold out" performances.
There are plans to produce a book based on the research outcomes of the project, and a DVD. This web site will be developed over time into a comprehensive record of the Group's researches - the aim is both to inform and to entertain.
The Barford Heritage Group meets regularly to discuss research and to plan activities. If you would like to join the Group, please visit the Contact Us page and get in touch.
